Hummus

Hummus is such a good dip and it is a very healthy one too!

Chickpeas or garbanzo beans are what you want to look for when you are at the store. I am not sue why, but some brands label them differently, but they are the same things!

Premade hummus can cost $3 to $5 for a small portion. If you buy a can of beans and the other ingredients you probably have on hand you can make your own delicious batch for about $1.25! That is a huge saving in my book, especially when one of my kids eats this by the spoonful and dips everything in it!

Hummus

Servings: 4 servings
Course: Appetizer, Side Dish, Snack

Ingredients

  • 1 can of chick peas or garbanzo beans same thing just different names per brand
  • 2 T olive oil
  • 1/4 cup -1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 T lemon juice
  • Optional 1-2 tsp tahini

Method

  1. Drain chickpeas and put peas in a blender. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend. If the blender doesn’t work well add more water. Blend until smooth.
  2. Taste the hummus and see what you think! Add more seasonings until you like it. I usually start with a little salt and adjust the rest from there.
