Burger Bowls – Irresistible, Easy, and Low Carb

Low-carb burger bowl with lettuce, tomato, pickles, burger, and special sauce.

What are Burger Bowls?

Burger bowls are a deconstructed take on a classic cheeseburger or Big Mac, no bun required. Instead, all your favorite burger toppings are layered over a fresh bed of salad and drizzled with a tangy special sauce for the ultimate low-carb, high-flavor meal.

This is one of my favorite meals! I love this recipe because it is the perfect way to eat a burger in my opinion. It is gluten-free and full of vegetables.

I usually use beef patties or ground beef for this recipe but it would also taste amazing if you used ground pork, chicken, or vegetarian crumbles. You can use whatever you want and have a perfect meal for meal prep or supper right away.

This healthy dinner idea pairs your love of a burger with a salad making it the ultimate meal prep for supper or even packaging it up to take for work so you know you have a healthy option. It is a low carb and gluten free meal so anyone in your family can enjoy it no matter their eating style.

Another huge positive for making this meal for dinner, especially when you have kids, is that it is entirely customizeable. All you have to do is make sure you have your family’s favorite burger toppings on hand and you now have the easiest dinner idea.

We usually make it with homemade french fries but you could easily grab your favorite frozen ones to make meal prep even faster. With our hand cut fries this meal takes about 35 minutes from start to finish.

Burger bowls are a great way to stretch a pound of ground beef into multiple meals, especially when paired with filling veggies. Making your own sauce and using pantry spices keeps costs low while packing in flavor.

Why You’ll Love This Burger Bowl Recipe

This has all the flavor you want from a Big Mac or cheeseburger but without the bun. This makes it a low carb, high protein, high fiber meal that will keep you feeling full all day!

Burger bowls are great meal prep because you can make a bunch of bowls for everyone in the family and then they can put their own favorite toppings on their servings, making this a totally customizable meal.

Talk about an easy meal prep meal. This one can easily be prepared ahead of time and it is just as good on day one as it is on day four. Using ground beef instead of beef patties keep it from drying out too.

Not only are these great meals to make these are also really fun to make as family! Everyone in the family can put their favorite toppings to make their burger bowl just they way they like it.

Tips for the Best Burger Bowls

Using ground beef instead of patties makes this recipe a little more meal prep friendly. Burger patties tend to dry out as leftovers, but ground beef seems to keep it’s texture a little better.

When making the meat and seasoning it, do not overmix it. This makes the meat tough after cooking. All you have to do is season it and form it into patties or cook it in a skillet.

To have the best flavor from your secret sauce mix it ahead of time, this is also great for meal prep! The flavors will meld together and it will be the most flavorful it can be!

The ultimate meal prep tip for this and for making the best burger bowl possible is to let everyone add their own toppings and sauce. This way each person in the family will have the burger bowl of their dreams!

You can also easily swap out the ground beef/patties for turkey, chicken, or veggie patties! This burger bowl recipe is one that can be enjoyed by everyone! Bonus, it is a great gluten free meal if you know someone who needs a good gluten free meal prep make sure to share this with them!

Meal Prep and Storage Tips for Burger Bowls

Cooking the beef ahead of time makes burger bowl assembly a breeze. You can make the patties or brown the ground beef before hand to make meal prep really quick when you are ready for it.

The special sauce can be made 3-5 days in advance of when you want to eat these bowls. It will maximize the flavor of the bowls and you will be so happy with yourself :).

When you want to take these for meal prepped lunches make sure to keep the secret sauce off to the side so you don’t have soggy veggies.
