A Delicious Twist on the Classic Philly Cheesesteak

Philly Cheesesteaks are known for their iconic tender, juicy steak, melted cheese, and sautéed peppers and onions. What if you could make this delicious meal even simpler, without sacrificing any of the flavor? Would you try it?

If so this is the recipe for you!

This is one of my favorite meals to make after having a roast! I started making this when we had leftover beef roast, but you know what?

It works really well with pork or chicken, too. I don’t know what to call it besides a Philly Cheesesteak, so that’s why it is in quotes; it works for every type of meat, which makes it the perfect meal any day of the week. You can make a roast specifically to make this meal or you can use the leftovers you have to rejuvenate them and make them feel like a whole new meal.

Eating leftovers doesn’t have to be boring, just check out this recipe!

Why You’ll Love This Version of Philly Cheesesteak

It is quick and easy. You can use the leftover meat from a previous roast for the simplest version, or you can make a slow-cooked roast (beef, pork, or chicken) for an amazing, cost-effective meal.

Roast adds a delicious and flavorful way to start the meat. Then you add in the other ingredients, and you have yourself the most savory meal that only takes a few minutes (after the meat prep of course).

This recipe doesn’t use a lot of fancy ingredients. All you need are a few staples like onions, peppers, Worcestershire sauce, and a little garlic with the roast. Also, the cheese, the cheese is very important; I always use provolone for its amazing cheese pull effect.

Another great reason to love this Philly Cheesesteak recipe is that it is delicious on a bun or on a salad, as pictured. This can be a keto-friendly meal, gluten-free, and it can also be dairy-free if you need it to be; just skip the cheese. Or if you have someone in your family who doesn’t like cheese, like our family has, it is an easy meal to customize to make everyone happy with one dish. Just put cheese on the portions you want and leave it off of the others.

Your family is also going to love this. Every. Single. Person. in my family asks for seconds on this one. We just have to leave the cheese off a section so everyone can enjoy the meal. It is a low-carb, gluten-free, keto-friendly recipe, so no matter what, you can enjoy this!

Tips for the Perfect Philly Cheesesteak With Leftovers

Make sure to pick a high-quality roast. Look for marbling in it (yummy, melty fat layers between the muscle fibers in the meat). Check the sales at your favorite grocery or butcher store; you can get great meat for a great price if you do.

As stated above, this Philly Cheesesteak recipe works well with any type of meat, so you can grab what is on sale at the store. Not only will you save money doing that, but you will also be saving money and time when you use the leftovers from it!

Another tip if using buns, toast them with a little bit of butter and a dash of garlic salt to really pop the flavors. This also adds a lot of texture to the meal. We usually use hot dog buns for this, but a yummy hoagie bun would be a great option ,too.

You can also put it over a bed of lettuce as pictured for the gluten-free people in your family or if you aren’t in the mood for a bun.

Meal Prep and Storage Tips

For the ultimate meal prep, chop your veggies when you bring them home from the store and stash them in the fridge.

Make the roast during the day, while you can have the crock pot on while you are at work, cleaning the house, or at school. Then the meat will be done when you are ready to make supper.

Store leftovers inair tight containers so they stay safe while they are in the fridge. Remember, food is best eaten in 4 days after preparation, this make sure bacteria aren’t growing.

When you reheat this, it is the most delicious if you can do it in a skillet. This way, the food will get a perfect little crunch added to it, and it heats evenly.
